About Us

Crystal Genesis provides state-of-the-art manufacturing and R&D services in the production, characterization, and application of novel crystalline materials. Crystal Genesis' scientists are world renown in the science and technology of crystal growth, fabrication of crystalline materials, characterization of critical materials properties, and engineering and construction of devices to exploit these unique properties. Our materials and services are employed in a wide range of technologies including electronics, photonics, and alternative energies

Our Senior Scientific Staff

Michael Scripsick Ph.D.

Dr. Michael Scripsick is the President and founder of Crystal Genesis, LLC. In addition to his management duties, Dr. Scripsick is closely involved in all technical activities at Crystal Genesis. He has over twenty-five years of professional experience in the growth of single crystal materials, identifying and characterizing atomic level properties and defects of crystals, developing post- growth techniques to eliminate or enhance defects to improve material performance, and developing applications to exploit unique properties of materials. He has applied these areas of expertise in laser hosts, linear and nonlinear optics, electro-optics, photorefractives, piezoelectrics, and pyroelectrics. Prior to founding Crystal Genesis, Dr. Scripsick founded Nova Phase, LLC and previously was Director of R&D at Crystal Associates, Inc.. In each of his positions he has directed internally funded research efforts as well as more than twenty federally funded competitive research programs. He has authored over twenty peer reviewed articles and conference proceedings and been both been both a contributing and invited speaker at numerous national and international conferences.

Barry Wechsler Ph.D.

Dr. Barry Wechsler has over thirty-five years experience in the field of crystal growth and characterization. He has been involved in numerous R&D programs involving the development of a variety of laser, nonlinear optical, and photorefractive crystals at Crystal Genesis, and during previous employment at Nova Phase, Inc., Crystal Associates, Inc., and Hughes Research Laboratories (HRL). Most recently, he has led crystal growth activities at Crystal Genesis, focusing on development of SBN for pyroelectric applications, tungstate laser crystals, stoichiometric lithium niobate and lithium tantalate nonlinear crystals, and potassium niobate for photorefractive applications. At Crystal Associates, Dr. Wechsler focused on vanadate laser crystals and arsenates for NLO applications. During his years at Hughes, he worked on the development of many different crystals, including BaTiO3, SrTiO3, (Ba,Sr)TiO3, LiNbO3, KNbO3, and Bi12TiO20. He led the "Photorefractive and Nonlinear Materials" project while at HRL. His experience at HRL also included program management and supervisory responsibilities for the crystal growth laboratory.
